Why Was My Card Declined?

Learn why your card might be declined when purchasing a subscription and how to resolve it.

Last updated on 13 Apr, 2026

If your card is being declined when trying to purchase a monthly subscription on Colonist.io - even if you have enough funds - there could be several reasons. Here's what might be going on and how to fix it.

Common Symptoms

  • You see a “Card declined” or “Payment failed” message when checking out.

  • Your card works elsewhere but not on Colonist.io.

  • You have enough funds available, but payment won’t go through.

Causes

Banks may sometimes block transactions they consider unusual or risky, even if you have enough funds. This can happen if your card was previously declined on Colonist.io, if your bank has placed restrictions on online or international purchases, or if there are issues with your card’s information.

If your card is declined several times in a row, our system may temporarily block that card as a fraud precaution. Wait a few hours before retrying — do not keep attempting, as this extends the block.Solutions

1
Check your card details
Make sure your card number, expiration date, and security code are correct.
2
Try a different card or payment method
If possible, use another credit/debit card.
3
Contact your bank
Ask if there are any restrictions or blocks on your card for online or international purchases.
4
Wait and retry later
If your card was blocked after multiple failed attempts, wait a few hours before trying again.

If none of these steps work, contact us through the chat with your transaction details for further help
